The Penitent Magdalene (Reproduction)
Price on Request
This portrait of Saint Mary Magdalene kneeling in prayer and repentance is a recreation of the original painting done by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo between 1648 and 1665. In it, Mary is kneeling in a cave, where she is said to have spent the latter years of her life, gazing skyward in penance. She sits by a skull, a reminder of the fragile mortality of humanity, and a crucifix, a sign of her faith. Together, these objects symbolize the inevitability of death in this world, and, through devotion to Jesus, the promise of eternal life in heaven.
